8 Simple Newstart Principles To Get You on the Road to Optimal Health

NUTRITION
Monosodium glutamate is an excitotoxin that stimulates the brain. Manufacturers put it in foods as a flavor enhancer and to create longing for more of their product. It causes brain neurons to become “overexcited,” virtually exciting themselves to death. It also destroys retinal vision cells.

EXERCISE
One study showed that regular moderate exercise was at least as effective as medications in controlling blood sugar in diabetics. Those who exercised had the bonus of missing out on the usual side effects of medications which include loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, indigestion and diarrhea

WATER
Dehydration affects cognitive performance making it harder to concentrate or perform certain tasks. New research is showing that dehydration also impacts our mood, making us more irritable. Foggy thinking or feeling may be a result of a “dry brain.”

SUNLIGHT
Vitamin D helps our bodies to absorb calcium which can be used to strengthen our bones. If we do not have enough vitamin D and calcium, we can develop bone diseases like osteoporosis or Rickets disease. Osteoporosis is porous brittle bone, and Rickets disease results in decreased growth plate function which can lead to softened, weakened bones, stunted growth and skeletal deformities.

TEMPERANCE
Caffeine poisons all of the body and can contribute to nervousness, anxiety, sleep and memory loss, headaches, heart palpitations, peptic ulcers and osteoporosis. Caffeine creates addiction and is the most widely used dependence-creating substance in the world. Caffeine withdrawal can produce headaches, fatigue, irritability, and other adverse symptoms

AIR
We breathe about 21,600 times a day or about 600 million times during a lifetime. The alveoli or air sacs need air that is warm, moist and filtered – free from dust, germs and smoke. The nasal passages condition the air by heating it with blood vessels in cold weather and moistening it by fluid-secreting glands in the nasal tissues

REST
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland in response to darkness. This hormone helps to regulate sleep, but it also serves as an antioxidant protecting us from free radicals. This helps to prevent damage to the DNA in our cells. DNA damage is linked to many diseases including cancer.

TRUST IN GOD
For Christians, research shows having faith in God’s promises allows one to find fulfilment in life. Faith is defined as an unquestioning belief that does not require proof or evidence.  In orthodox Christianity, one’s faith can help them through the stressors of life.  It allows them to see a different perspective and continue to have faith in something greater than they are.

As Weimar states, “It’s never too early or too late to work towards becoming the healthiest you.”
